Pick Up Leaves and Branches
As the leaves start to fall, you may try to stay ahead of them by raking once or twice a week. As you’re doing so, make sure to keep an eye out for any small branches or sticks that come off the trees as well. Strong winds and colder temperatures can take their toll on dead or broken branches, and you’ll want to make sure you separate the sticks from the leaves. Check with your homeowner’s association or municipality to see if you can put bags of leaves or a yard cart full of sticks and other debris on the curb for weekly pickup.
Cut the Grass and Prune the Shrubs
You may mow the leaves in your yard to create mulch, or you may wait until all the leaves are picked up before you mow the grass one last time. Whatever the case may be, it’s a good idea to cut the grass short, since you’re going to be putting the lawn mower away for the season. You’ll also want to prune any shrubs and bushes that have become overgrown during the summer. This can make scooping snow off your sidewalks easier, since you won’t have branches encroaching on the walkways.
Clean Your Tools
Whether you’re tending to the garden this fall, or raking up leaves and mowing the grass, it’s a good idea to clean your tools and equipment once you’re done with fall cleanup. Get the hose out and wash away the clumps of grass from the mower blades, and wash off any shovels and rakes that you’ve used. While you’re at it, hose down the patio furniture before you put it in storage for the season!

If you have things such as garden tools or patio furniture that you need to store, then we’re here to help.
