Successfully Moving Into Your Storage Unit
When you’re moving into a self-storage unit, you may be tempted to unload things as quickly as possible so that you can get on with your day. While that’s understandable, you could be setting yourself up for frustration in the future, when you come back to your unit and can’t find what you want.
At EZ Storage® in Pittsburgh, we can help you find the right unit for your belongings. Whether you need to store things for a couple of months, or you want to keep something safe for an entire year, you can do so at one of our locations. In this post, we’ll look at three things that can help you successfully move into your new storage space.
Unload the Heavy Items First
If you have heavy items such as a couch or a washer and dryer, then it’s a good idea to unload those things first so that you can find the prime spot for them in the unit. This means that they need to be the last things loaded into the truck or van when it’s parked at the house. Unloading heavy items first will also get them out of the way, so you won’t have to try to move them at the end of move-in day, when you’re exhausted.
Take Pictures of Everything
Once everything is out of the truck, van, or car and into the unit, take a few minutes to take pictures of how everything is arranged. You can also take pictures of each individual box, and on top of having a mental picture of where everything is, you’ll have a physical picture as well. You can reference these photos the next time you come to your unit, to see if anything has shifted or moved.
Double Check Your Inventory List
Hopefully, before you moved things into your storage unit, you made an inventory list of everything that was to be stored. It’s important to know what’s in the unit, as well as what box or tub it’s in, so that when you want it, you can find it quickly. Labeling each box is also important, and once everything is moved in, you can walk through the unit and double check your list to see if things match up. If anything is missing, then you can look in the truck or van to see if it was forgotten, or if you left it sitting at home.
At EZ Storage® in Pittsburgh, we’re dedicated to helping every person who needs self-storage find the perfect option. The office at each of our three metro-area locations is open Monday through Saturday, and you can access your unit between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. on any day of the year. A staff member or resident manager will be more than happy to help you, should have any questions while you’re on-site.
When you’re moving into your self-storage unit, keep these three things in mind and you should have an easy and stress-free experience. Once everything is in, you’ll know that it will be safe and sound until you come to get it!
