Traveling Back to College This Fall

With September just around the corner, many college students across the greater Philadelphia area will be heading back to school in the next few weeks. Some colleges and universities have already started classes, both online and on campus, in order to start the semester on time. At EZ Storage®, we’re here to help college students find the perfect self-storage unit for anything they need to keep safe while they’re away from home, working towards their degree.

If you’re traveling back to college in another state, even if it’s just across the Delaware River into New Jersey, it’s important to consider what you’re going to take with you and what could be stored for a few months. You’ll also want to think about how to travel safely during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

What To Take With You?

As a college student, you need a few things with you as you head off to school for the next few months. You’ll obviously need clothes and shoes, but what about furniture and electronics? If you’re driving back to campus, there’s only so much you can fit in your car or truck, so it’s important to be selective with what you take with you. If you’re going to be home for fall break or Thanksgiving, you may not need to take all of your cold-weather apparel with you this time. You can take some summer and fall attire, while packing an extra sweater or jacket for those colder days in September and October.

As for furniture, electronics, and other items, you’ll need to think about where you will be living. If you’re headed to the college dorms, then you shouldn’t need extra furniture, since the school will provide most of what you need. You might be bringing a mini fridge with you, and you can pack that in the backseat of the car right next to your new flat screen TV. If you’re moving into an apartment, it might be better to source new furniture once you get to your destination, instead of worrying about how you’re going to move a couch, chair, or bed from Philadelphia to your apartment in another state.

Storing Your Belongings

Perhaps you’re transferring from a local college to a school that’s farther away this semester. You may have completed a few years of community college, and now you want to finish your degree at a four-year institution. If you’ve been living at home or in an apartment with roommates, you’ll need to think about not only what you’ll take with you, but what you could put into storage until you return.

If you’re going to buy or rent new furniture once you get to your destination, then you may need somewhere to store your old bed frame, mattress, couch, and more until you come back at the end of the semester. You could sell some things to make a little extra money, but whatever is left can be stored at one of our secure facilities across the metro area. As for other items, such as clothes, personal belongings, and more, we can help you find the right storage space for all of your boxes and tubs.

Traveling Safely

One thing to keep in mind this year is to travel safely and be conscious of health guidelines wherever you go. If it’s going to take a few days to get to school, think about where you’ll stay and what you’ll do when you need to eat or get gas. You’ll also want to check with your college or university to see what protocols they have in place for students returning to campus, and what procedures you’ll need to follow if you’re moving into the dorms or a nearby apartment.
