Your Summer Travel List
As summer approaches, you might be thinking about hitting the road and seeing parts of America you’ve never seen before. Perhaps you’re a college student who will be on summer break, or maybe you’re someone who’s newly married and for your honeymoon, you and your spouse want to travel across the country. Whatever the case may be, it’s a good idea to have a summer travel list!
At EZ Storage® in Pittsburgh, we can help you find the ideal self-storage unit for anything you want to protect while you travel. Whether you’re going to be gone for a month or the entire summer, you can find a space that will keep your belongings safe and sound.
Where will you go this summer? While the possibilities are endless, it can be good to start by thinking about the regions of the United States and where you haven’t been.
The East Coast
Since you’re already in the Pittsburgh area, the East Coast can be a quick trip during the summer. You’ve likely been to Philly once or twice in your life, so that might be off the list. New York City is only six hours away, and it’s another two to three hours to Boston. If you’re a fan of American history, then the East Coast is a great place to go. You can see colonial landmarks in Massachusetts, or head down to Washington, D.C. and see all of the fantastic monuments and museums.
The Midwest to the Rocky Mountains
Pennsylvania, especially western Pennsylvania, is considered part of the Midwest, and there’s plenty to explore as you make your way west across Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to visit the Great Lakes. Cleveland and Lake Erie are only a couple of hours away, and if you continue up I-90, you can make it to Buffalo and Niagara Falls. You can pop over into Canada and get a look at Lake Ontario, and you can then check two of the Great Lakes off of your list!
As you make your away across the Great Plains to the Rocky Mountains, you can see the vast farmlands of Kansas and Nebraska, or go a little ways north and stop to see Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. You might be headed for Yellowstone in Wyoming or Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, but there’s plenty to see along the way.
The South
If you’ve never been to the American South, it can be a great place to visit for food, history, and more. Cities such as Atlanta or New Orleans have vibrant areas that can be a lot of fun to explore, and you can experience all kinds of cultures. If you’re into country music, then one of your stops has to be Nashville, where you can see the Grand Ole Opry and find live music in nearly every bar and restaurant.
As you continue south, you’ll of course come to sunny Florida and its many, many beaches. You can head for the Gulf of Mexico side or the Atlantic Ocean side, but whichever you choose, you can soak up some rays while you relax on the sand.
The West
If you’re heading over the Rocky Mountains, then you’ll have plenty to explore in the western United States. Perhaps you’re headed for California, with cities such as San Francisco or San Jose marked on your map. It’s about 40 hours of driving from Pittsburgh to San Fran, so you’ll have plenty of time to see sights along the way. If your destination is Vegas, then the drive will be a bit shorter, and Los Angeles is only another four hours or so beyond that.
You may also want to see the Pacific Northwest, and cities such as Portland and Seattle can be great to visit during the summer. Be sure to pack your rain gear, especially if you plan to be outside at all!
