Get Ready for the Year’s First Garage Sale!

Now that spring weather has finally arrived in Philadelphia, you’re probably looking forward to spending more time outside. However, before you can do that, you might be planning do some spring cleaning and get rid of some unwanted items. One of the best ways to purge those extraneous things is to have a garage sale. You can take everything out to the driveway, set up some tables, and have people come by to make an offer on all of your stuff!
At EZ Storage®, we can help you prepare for your garage sale by storing those things you want to hold onto, at least for now. With one of our self-storage units in Philadelphia, you can keep your belongings safe and sound until there’s room for them once again in your house or garage!
Be Sure to Advertise
With spring now well underway, people across the city are posting ads about their upcoming yard and garage sales. With so many to choose from, people who enjoy going to garage sales may not know where to start. They’ll likely stay close to their own neighborhood, especially if they plan on buying larger items such as TVs or appliances.
When it comes to your sale, it’s important to advertise, especially in and around your neighborhood. Posting on social media, placing an ad in the newspaper, and putting up flyers in your local coffee shop can be a great way to drum up interest, and never forget that word of mouth can often be the best way to promote your upcoming sale.
Decide What You Want to Keep
One of the hardest things about a garage sale can be watching your possessions end up in the hands of another person. You know what you want to sell, but there are always those items that you’re not sure about until the day of the sale. If you’re having a hard time deciding what you want to keep, put those items aside and assess them after the sale. You can bring them to your storage unit, and we’ll keep them safe until you decide what you want to do with them. You may find that you still have a use for smething, and putting it up for sale would’ve been a big mistake.
Be Willing to Barter
Many people who attend garage sales are ready to barter and deal for what they find on the tables. As the organizer, it’s important that you’re willing to barter with someone who’s making a reasonable offer on something. You know what you would like to get for a certain item, and if they’re offering close to what you’re asking, it’s probably better to sell it to them than to have to carry it back inside and find somewhere to store it.
On the other hand, if someone is offering to buy something for much lower than what you know it is worth, it’s okay to turn them down with a firm, but polite “no.” There may be someone else who comes along and makes a more reasonable offer, and holding out for an hour or two could yield a bit more money in your pocket. If there are no reasonable offers and you end up holding onto the item, you can always put it in storage, sell it online, or keep it until you host your next sale.
If you’re getting ready for your first garage sale of the year, then let EZ Storage® help you store those items that you want to keep separated from the sale items. We can keep everything safe for as long as you need, and if there are things that aren’t purchased on the sale, you can bring them your self-storage unit whenever it works for you.
We look forward to helping you!
