Where Will People Stay When They Come to Visit?

Thanksgiving is just over a week away, and with it, you might be expecting several house guests for the long weekend. After that, it’s only a few weeks until the December holidays, when even more people will come to stay with you. At EZ Storage® in Philadelphia, we can help you find the perfect self-storage unit for anything you need to get out of the way before guests arrive. Visit one of our locations today to learn more!

One of the biggest challenges when people are staying with you can be finding somewhere for each person to sleep. If you have parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and more coming to visit, then you’ll need to find a suitable spot for everyone. In this post, we’ll look at some ideas that will hopefully help you plan.

The Guest Room

The guest bedroom is the obvious choice for visitors, because its purpose is to accommodate your guests. There’s a bed, a dresser, and a closet, giving people somewhere to sleep, somewhere to put clothes, and somewhere to hang things that need to be hung. However, before visitors arrive, it’s good to go through the room to make sure there isn’t clutter under the bed or in the closet that could get in the way of your guests’ comfort.

The Home Office

Once the guest room is occupied, the next option for sleeping arrangements in the house is often the home office. This room may have once been a guest room, but you now use it when working from home or for paying your monthly bills. If there’s a sofa or a pull-out couch in the office, then it can serve as another bedroom for holiday guests. Again, it’s good to make sure the space is clear of clutter, and you may have to rearrange some furniture in order to make room for the sofa bed.

The Living Room

The living room is a common space where everyone gathers during the holidays, but when you have a house full of guests, it may also need to function as a bedroom. You can rearrange the furniture so that the couch or sofa bed isn’t in the middle of the room, but unlike the guest room or home office, there isn’t a door that offers privacy. You can always set up a makeshift curtain or room divider so that whomever is sleeping in the living room has a bit of privacy, but at the end of the day, it might be the only option left after all the rooms are taken.

Sharing Bedrooms

If you have families with kids who are coming to stay, then a great way to save on sleeping space is to have the kids share a bedroom. They can bunk with your own kids by putting sleeping bags and/or air mattresses on the floor, or you can put young siblings in the same bed. Pairing up the kids can mean you have the guest room or home office for the parents, and what child doesn’t love a sleepover? You may have to move things around to make space in the kids’ bedrooms, but it can be a better arrangement than trying to find floor space elsewhere in the house.
